Biography
“The pianistic find of the century” – Pierre Monteux, 1944.
Leon Fleisher was born in 1928, studied with Artur Schnabel from age nine, and remained active as a pianist until his death in 2020 – despite losing the use of his right hand in 1964.
For many decades he performed – and vastly expanded, thanks to commissioning – the piano left-hand repertoire, while also teaching many future stars. In 2004 he regained some movement in his right hand and made several more two-handed recordings.
