As a "BBC New Generation Artist" and winner of the "Young Artist of the Year" (2016), Benjamin Appl already caused a sensation and thrilled audiences in large concert halls with his beautiful voice and stage presence. His first album "Heimat" received praise from the press: "outstanding with his pithy dark baritone and much sense for intermediate tones, with silky piano passages and perfect diction. ...timelessly haunting singing" (Deutschlandfunk). On his new Bach album, the young baritone, together with the outstanding early music ensemble Concerto Köln and a selection of recitatives, arias and sinfonias, spans Bach's complex cantata oeuvre. In traits, the selection follows the cycle of the church year, with music from earliest and latest, well-known and lesser-known works, parodies of secular cantatas, and the development of the genre from the traditional choral cantata to the "modern" one. Benjamin Appl sings, among others, "Willkommen werter Schatz," "Mache Dich, mein Herze, rein" from the St. Matthew Passion and the aria "Was Gott tut, das ist." In between, sinfonias from four cantatas are heard. As a bonus, the famous "Jesus, bleibet meine Freude".
