The piano music of Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) is still widely unknown, yet a fascinating terrain. The multiple award-winning pianist Janne Mertanen gives an unusual and idiomatically played insight into multifaceted early works, which were often written in Sibelius' student days. The musically intimate program also includes Christmas pieces and six arrangements of Finnish folk songs for piano. Some of these piano pieces then reappeared in other contexts, be it in symphonic poems or the string quartet "Voces intimae." This album invites you to explore Sibelius' private piano music.
