SOUNDTRACKS NEWS
The Others: Writer, Director, and Composer Alejandro Amenábar's
first English-language film The Others was picked by Entertainment Weekly as one of the 10 Summer Movies Worth Seeing in this week's issue.
A thrilling and suspenseful ghost story with a truly
unexpected and inspired twist, The Others is set in the
English Channel Islands just after the war, stars Nicole Kidman
and is executive-produced by Tom Cruise. Amenábar not only
wrote the script and directed the film - "The fun stuff is the
style, which relies on shadow and silence," writes ET - he also
scored the film.
Hit the website,
check out the trailer, and sample Amenábar's
moody score as performed by The London Session Orchestra
under the direction of Claudio Ianni.
The Producers Hit Pledge Time on PBS

of the entire cast and crew - including director Susan Stroman,

as they record The Producers cast album with hilarity, heart, and

CLASSICAL NEWS
Rediscovering Vivaldi: Giuliano Carmignola and the Venice Baroque Orchestra Coming to America
"There are dozens of Four Seasons recordings in the catalog...
this is the most impressive Four Seasons performance ever heard on
a recording... you haven't heard the heart and soul of this music
until you hear this." - that's what ClassicsToday.com noted in
their January 2001 review of the Carmignola/VBO album of Vivaldi's
Four Seasons.
Now, in time for the release of their latest recording, this time
of late, unpublished Vivaldi concertos - in stores this week -
Carmignola and the
Venice Baroque Orchestra
are coming to New York to play their first American concert in the world-
renowned Mostly Mozart Festival. After the gig on August 16,
Carmignola and the VBO will present a free public concert on
August 17 at the World Trade Center Borders store.
Keep your eye on this site for further details.
Meanwhile, check out the album web site, including video and
music clips from the new release.
Latest Word from Hilary: This time, Philadelphia
After a busy spring that included concerts and recording sessions
on both sides of the Atlantic, Hilary Hahn
finds time to write from Philadelphia. As you'll learn, the violinist performs with an old
friend and a new colleague, and prepares for a summer of intensive
learning (but this time, Hilary won't be studying scores).
Catch the news and the views in Hilary's latest
Postcard from the Road.
