SOUNDTRACKS NEWS
Planet of the Apes: Soundtrack in Stores Now!
The '60s cult classic Planet of the Apes is back, seen
this time through the directorial eye of Tim Burton.
And with it comes the kind of electrifying score that
only Danny Elfman can provide, plus Paul Oakenfold's
awesome remix of Elfman's title track, "Rule the
Planet."
To hear the full "Rule the Planet" remix (streamed in its
entirety, but for this week only!), check out the
soundtrack website.
(The first 100,000 CDs include an exclusive Topps Trading Card in
the package!)

CROSSOVER NEWS
Joshua Bell's Bernstein: The Critics Rave
This week's Entertainment Weekly gives Josh's site its top rating!
"Elegantly designed...his site's music for both the ears and the
eyes...."
JoshuaBell.com
In The New York Times, Sunday, July 22, critic David
Mermelstein praises Joshua Bell and the recordings he has made with
Sony Classical -- most notably, West Side Story Suite.
Mr. Bell, the critic writes, "handles the technical hurdles with grace and
zeal, and Mr. Brohn deserves praise for his ability to make a solo violin the music's prime mover."
As for all those albums Mermelstein mentions in his review, you
can check those out right here.
For those who couldn't be there, Josh's Central Park concert
was videotaped for airing on PBS as part of Great Performances
series on October 10.
To hear samples from the album and to learn about how
West Side Story Suite came to pass, visit

CLASSICAL NEWS
Heads Up: Carmignola and the Venice Baroque Orchestra:
A New Set of Unheard Vivaldi Concertos and a Trip Stateside for their American Concert Debut at "Mostly Mozart"
Last year, violinist Giuliano Carmignola
and the Venice Baroque Orchestra
under conductor Andrea Marcon redefined the very sound
of one of the most popular works in the classical repertoire,
Vivaldi's "Four Seasons". As ClassicsToday.com noted in their
January 2001 review, when they made the Carmignola /VBO album their
recording of the month: "There are dozens of Four Seasons recordings
in the catalog...but you haven't heard the heart and soul of this
music until you hear this."
In a few short weeks, these artists bring their singular vision
to a collection of previously unpublished Vivaldi concertos - the
album's in stores August 7.
On August 16, Carmignola
and the VBO will perform in New York at
the "Mostly Mozart Festival" - their first U.S. concert. They'll also
be performing in a free public concert on August 17 at the World
Trade Center Borders. Keep your eye on this site for further details.
