SOUNDTRACKS NEWS
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within: Soundtrack Out Next Week
You've already seen the bus ads and billboards for the computer-
generated futuristic action/adventure. Even before the film hits
the big screen in July, you can own Elliot Goldenthal's explosive
soundtrack for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, featuring
original songs by L'Arc-en-Ciel and Lara Fabian. It's a classic
sci-fi score. Haunting, dynamic, and bold, it echoes memorable
scores such as "Star Wars," "Blade Runner," and "Batman." A must
have for fans of epic sci-fi music.
Check out our teaser, and look for the full site next week.
The Producers Mug Shots: Is Your Face Among Them?
On Monday night, those zany, madcap ne'er-do-wells (Mel Brooks,
Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick) brought their charming faces
to Tower Records Lincoln Center in New York City for what is
sometimes called in the business a signing. Signing, schmigning!
It was a zoo! And as we promised in last week's newsletter, there
was somebody there with -- you got it -- a camera. Even as we
speak, someone deep in the bowels of the Sony building is poring
over the rolls and rolls of film shot during the event for images
to post on The Producers cast recording web site.
BOOKMARK THIS PAGE! If you were one of the proud, the brave, or
the foolhardy who ventured to Tower Records Lincoln Center on this
fateful occasion, then maybe -- just maybe -- your mug is there for
all to see.
And if you recognize your father's eyes and your mother's nose in
any of these pics, you will be eligible for a special online
drawing for tickets to the show! Pictures will be posted in
a few days, and the drawing will take place in the next few
weeks -- keep checking!
Crouching Tiger Tops Rental Charts -- Buy the Soundtrack!
Entertainment Weekly was right: The four Oscars didn't hurt.
In its second week out on home video (DVD, VHS),
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has already reached the top
of the home rental charts. But as any tax accountant will tell you,
it's better to own than to rent. That's why the soundtrack of
Tan Dun's Oscar-winning score is in stores now. Film scores
provide the rhythm to the images they accompany, and Tan Dun's
music for Crouching Tiger is the third dimension of Ang Lee's
action-packed yet lyrical film. Sample the score, featuring
cellist extraordinaire Yo-Yo Ma, at the
Soundtrack's web site.
And for the movie-lover on your list, why not send him or her an
E-card?
Experts all agree it's a great way to put a little kick into any relationship.

CROSSOVER NEWS
Tonight? Tonight! Joshua Bell's Bernstein in Stores Now!
Bell;
Bernstein;
Broadway: a combination that could only be made
in America. West Side Story Suite hit the street last week. The
recording features the virtuoso violinist playing dazzling new
arrangements from Leonard Bernstein's Broadway years, with the
Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of another American
master, David Zinman.
The CD includes notes by Jamie Bernstein Thomas.
Josh will join the New York Philharmonic in Central Park
July 10th, performing in the shadow of the Dakota, Bernstein's
longtime New York home. Joining him on stage that night will be
another Sony Classical artist, Kristin Chenoweth, the Tony
Award-winning fireball. The program will be taped and aired
on PBS in October. Don't forget your picnic!
Check out the new site we've created to celebrate this new release.
Announcing the all-new JoshuaBell.com!
On store shelves, you might read the likes of "new" and
"improved" -- but how often do you believe it? Well, this
time it's absolutely true! With a lot of help from Josh
himself, we've packed the site with all kinds of new features
("Personals," for example, and an audio jukebox sampling his
Sony Classical recordings) and nice details (about his
Stradivarius, for instance) you won't find anywhere else.
If you want the latest word on what Josh is up to, this
should be the first place you look.
Isn't it time you sent an E-card? Tell all your friends
where you're going to be the night of July 10th with this little something from West Side Story Suite.
For more about Kristin Chenoweth, who'll be joining Josh
on stage in the Central Park concert, check out these
new sites:

CLASSICAL NEWS
Midori's First New Release in Two Years -- Out This Week
Teaming up with violist Nobuko Imai, pianist / conductor
Christoph Eschenbach and the NDR Sinfonieorchester, violin
sensation Midori returns to stores this week with a dazzling
new recording of Mozart. Paired with the gorgeous Sinfonia
Concertante in E-flat Major, K. 364 is Philip Wilby's
reconstruction of Mozart's unusual Concerto in D Major for
Violin, Piano and Orchestra. Visit Midori's website to learn
more about this wonderful recording.
Hilary's Postcards from the Road: We Get Two from Bavaria
Though the Brahms Violin Concerto recording date is just days
away, Hilary is still working hard, gigging in two of the most
beautiful cities in Bavaria. Baden-Baden, where Hilary first writes
to us, is known for its spas and refreshing mountain
air. But as you will read, Hilary is not there for the rest cure.
Indeed, her postcard actually comes from the Autobahn -- one of
those intense German highways that has no speed limit (Thank
goodness she wasn't trying to drive and write at the same time!).
The second postcard comes from Bamberg, where she performed
the Brahms one more time before the recording session with
Sir Neville Marriner and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields.
Catch the latest word and pics at HilaryHahn.com.
