Classical composer Tan Dun wins Academy Award for Best Score!
Composer Tan Dun took home the Oscar® for Best Score last Sunday for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon! Listen to Tan Dun and Yo-Yo Ma -- who performs on the soundtrack -- talk about Crouching Tiger in an audio interview online. Public Arts is hosting the program which can be found on more than 100 public radio and TV web sites in the USA. Check your favorite station's web site, and visit the multimedia Crouching Tiger web site for soundclips, videos and much more.
Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman performed at the Academy Awards
Viewers who tuned in to the 73rd Annual Academy Awards® last Sunday got a special treat: cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman performed themes from all of the Best Score Oscar® nominees including Chocolat and the category winner Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Yo-Yo Ma is featured on the Crouching Tiger soundtrack CD.
Hilary Hahn is back in the US and reports from Detroit in her online journal
Violinist Hilary Hahn has concluded her successful European tour and returned to the USA. Her latest Postcard from the Road comes from Detroit, where she performed four concerts in three days! After stops in Seattle and Atlanta she'll head for Europe again in April, with performances throughout Germany as well as Brussels and London.
Murray Perahia US tour continues
Grammy winning pianist Murray Perahia performs from his latest CD of Bach's Keyboard Concertos this weekend with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Fairfax, VA; and he'll be performing Mozart and Chopin in recital during April throughout the US. Check his tour schedule for dates near you!

Branford Marsalis tour starts this week! Catch him next week on Politically Incorrect and Late Late Night
Saxophonist Branford Marsalis and the virtuoso Orpheus Chamber Orchestra have begun a nationwide tour performing from their new album Creation, featuring music of jazz-influenced French composers. Check dates at the Creation web site, and catch Branford on Politically Incorrect next Monday and on Late Late Night with Craig Kilborn on Tuesday!
Charlotte Church in Jerusalem arrives on DVD next week!
Now available on VHS, Charlotte Church in Jerusalem will hit stores on DVD next Tuesday! The program features Charlotte performing her most popular songs in concert with full orchestra, and has been airing on PBS stations during March. Congratulations to composer Tan Dun, whose score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon won the Oscar® on Sunday! Nominated in ten categories, the Ang Lee film won four awards, the most ever for a non-English film. Along with Best Score, it also won in the categories Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction. Jesus Christ Superstar now in stores - see it on PBS April 11
Just in time for Easter, a new stage production soundtrack of the Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd Webber hit Jesus Christ Superstar arrived in stores this week. Based on the recent London revival, the new CD stars Glenn Carter as Jesus. Catch a new film adaptation of the show on the PBS series Great Performances, airing April 11 in most areas -- check your local listings.

The original Broadway cast recording of Mel Brook's musical The Producers hits stores next month! The show opens April 19 in New York, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. See the cast on The Rosie O'Donnell Show April 3 and on Today April 9 and find out what the furor is all about!
