Hilary Hahn Wins Cannes Classical Award
Congratulations to Hilary Hahn, whose recording of the Barber and Meyer Violin Concertos has received the 2001 Cannes Classical Award in the Solo/Orchestra 20th Century category! Hilary recorded the album with Hugh Wolff and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and she took us behind the scenes to the recording sessions last year in her popular online journal.
Murray Perahia Continues to Explore Bach
Pianist Murray Perahia continues his recordings of Bach with Volume 1 of the Keyboard Concertos, arriving in stores next month. Perahia is soloist and conductor with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields on the new album, which includes Concertos Nos. 1, 2 and 4. Perahia, whose recording of the Goldberg Variations is nominated for two Grammy Awards, will embark on a North American tour in March with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, performing the Bach Keyboard Concertos. The classic musical comedy Bells Are Ringing opens up on Broadway this April for a revival, and in March you can own the expanded edition of the original Broadway cast recording starring Judy Holliday! Also coming to stores is the original 1971 London cast recording of Fiddler on the Roof starring Topol.

Two Golden Globes for Crouching Tiger
Ang Lee received the Best Director Golden Globe Award last week for his highly acclaimed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, which was also named Best Foreign Language Film! The film's score from composer Tan Dun was also nominated -- hear soundclips online from the soundtrack album, featuring Yo-Yo Ma and Coco Lee, and log on to chat with Yo-Yo on February 5 beginning at 9pm EST!
Chocolat Called an "Oscar®-Worthy Score"
The score for the new film Chocolat has been called "an Oscar®-worthy score" by Tracksounds.com, who added that composer Rachel Portman "has an uncanny knack of delivering very emotional music..." Chocolat was nominated for a Golden Globe and Portman's score for The Cider House Rules is up for a Grammy Award.
