Welcome
to West Side Story Suite.
An exciting
NEW arrangement of an All-Time Great!
Grammy
Award-winning virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell is poised
for superstardom with the release of this new collection
of famous tunes by America's greatest 20th century
composer Leonard Bernstein, heard for the first time
in the uniquely lyrical voice of Bell's artistry.
The musical West Side Story -- considered by many
to be the pinnacle of musical theater -- is beloved
by the entire world, some four decades after Bernstein
completed its composition. The great melodies from
this score have been arranged in this new West Side
Story Suite by Tony Award-winning orchestrator William
David Brohn that displays to perfection the passionate
virtuosity of Joshua Bell.
The
album also features Brohn arrangements of two Bernstein
songs from the musical On The Town -- "Lonely Town"
and "New York, New York" -- as well as an arrangement
of the finale to Bernstein's Candide by Pulitzer Prize-winning
composer John Corigliano, who penned the Oscar®-winning
soundtrack The Red Violin for Josh; plus
Bernstein's only piece for violin and orchestra, the
"Serenade".
Josh
was Brohn's collaborator for the new arrangements,
and he starred this past August in the PBS broadcast
of a concert film of his performance of West Side
Story Suite with the New York Philharmonic from Central
Park, taped in June.
