Erin Brockovich is a stirring, funny and unconventional drama based on true events. Two-time Academy Award®-nominee Julia Roberts stars as the twice-divorced mother of three young children who defies the odds by taking on and defeating a major public utilities company. The movie (which is being compared with Norma Rae and Silkwood) was directed by Steven Soderbergh (sex, lies and videotape and Out of Sight) and was released in March 2000 by Universal Studios, providing Roberts with a role that already has words like "breakthrough" and "Oscar" associated with it. Thomas Newman has composed the score for this new blockbuster. Newman has movie music in his genes (he's the son of legend Alfred Newman and cousin of Randy Newman) but he has developed his own evocative, sometimes impressionistic style that's earned him four Academy Award® nominations for Best Original Score (most recently for American Beauty, and also The Shawshank Redemption, Little Women and Unstrung Heroes). The soundtrack CD also features two songs recorded by Sheryl Crow that appear in the film, "Everyday is a Winding Road" and "Redemption Day", from her 1996 album Sheryl Crow. |
