They're back!! Sony Classical is excited to announce the re-introduction of the best-selling Essential Classics series with 12 new releases. Essential Classics has become the staple of budget classical music the world over. To date, the series consists of over 100 great titles, with sales of over 10 million worldwide.

This edition adds 12 new "must have" titles to the series. Highlights include Anner Bylsma's landmark recording of the Bach Cello Suites (made in 1979); The Brandenburg Concertos performed on period instruments by Frans Brüggen, Gustav Leonhardt, Sigiswald Kuijken, and others; and Leonhardt's fiery renditions of Scarlatti Sonatas for harpsichord.

Essential Classics also heads in a new direction by introducing samplers that draw on highlights from the entire line. This release gathers together such favorites as the tuneful highlights from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, On the Town, Candide, and movements from his Mass and Clarinet Sonata performed by Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic, Michael Tilson Thomas and Members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and others. Other new collections devoted to works of individual composers are the "greatest hits" of Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin -- each on a single CD -- or sample the choicest treasures of the keyboard on The Essential Piano.
