Nominated for a Grammy Award as Best Classical Crossover Album

The 42nd Annual Grammy Awards featured a live
performance of "Death by Triple Fiddle"

"...one of the most inspired and beautiful listening experiences of our era and a work likely to be popularly embraced on the storied scale of Ralph Vaughn Williams' 'A Pastorial Symphony' and 'The Lark Ascending', Aaron Copland's suites from 'Billy The Kid' and 'Our Town', and Bill Monroe's 'Kentucky Waltz' and 'Scotland'... In sum, Short Trip Home is a stunning evocation of this nation's unfinished common search for a safe place."
 Timothy White, Billboard August 99

"Short Trip Home is so sweet, one wishes it were longer."
 Benjamin Ivry, barnesandnoble.com September 99

Short Trip Home is a genre-shattering recording of original new music from renowned bassist and composer Edgar Meyer, co-composer of the hit album Appalachia Waltz (SK 68460), which has sold 200,000 copies. Meyer is joined by virtuoso violinist and good friend Joshua Bell whose recording of John Corigliano's score for the movie The Red Violin (SK 63010) has garnered rave reviews worldwide and has been on the Billboard Classical Crossover chart since its release. Rounding out the quartet is bluegrass legend Sam Bush and master instrumentalist Mike Marshall.

Short Trip Home obliterates the boundaries between classical, world, jazz and American traditional music. It seamlessly combines elements of bluegrass, folk, rock, blues and classical music creating an exhilarating musical journey.

Edgar Meyer, called "the best bassist alive" (San Diego Magazine), blends his own unique style with classical and folk traditions. His collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma and Mark O'Connor on the widely acclaimed Appalachia Waltz topped the Billboard Classical Chart for 16 weeks. Other collaborations include Uncommon Ritual (SK 62891) with Mike Marshall and Béla Fleck.

Joshua Bell ("A full fledged international artist of the first rank", New York Times) performs around the world with top conductors and orchestras. His recordings include Gershwin Fantasy (SK 60659) with composer/conductor John Williams, Listen to the Storyteller (SK 60283) with jazz great Wynton Marsalis and the film soundtrack for The Red Violin.

Sam Bush is one of the most innovative musicians on the bluegrass and contemporary music scene. Sam has played with Emmylou Harris' Grammy Award-winning band Nash, Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, and Lyle Lovett. He has also recorded on albums by Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood and Steve Earle.

Mike Marshall's mastery of the mandolin, guitar and violin together with his ability to swing between jazz, classical and bluegrass styles has garnered him critical attention. Mike collaborated with Edgar Meyer and Béla Fleck on Uncommon Ritual which was in the top ten of Billboard's Classical charts for over three months.
