Listen to the Storyteller introduces three new stories for kids that unite celebrity narrators with world-class musicians performing original music from some of today's most talented composers. Inspired by the timeless popularity of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, these musical adventures provide a unique and entertaining introduction to the world of classical music for kids of all ages.
Academy Award®-nominated actress Kate Winslet [Titanic (SK 63213)] narrates "The Face in the Lake", a story about a princess kept captive in an icy tower, set to music from film composer Patrick Doyle [Sense and Sensibility (SK 62258)]. Renowned actor Graham Greene [Dances with Wolves] narrates "The Lesson of the Land", a Native American story of a boy coming of age that features Edgar Meyer performing his usual magic with the double-bass and Jerry Douglas on dobro. The multi-talented Wynton Marsalis narrates his own story about a disobedient little boy with a fiery interest in playing the fiddle in "The Fiddler and the Dancin' Witch" which features Grammy Award-nominated violinist Joshua Bell [Gershwin Fantasy (SK 60659), The Red Violin (SK 63010)] performing the stunning violin solos. All pieces are performed by the renowned Orchestra of St. Luke's with Steven Mercurio and Robert Sadin. The CD booklet contains the complete text of all the stories plus original illustrations. |
