Trumpeter, bandleader, composer Wynton Marsalis continues "Swinging into the 21st" with a series of seven new releases in 1999 on Sony Classical and Columbia.

Reeltime, the seventh release in this groundbreaking series, is Wynton's original score for the acclaimed John Singleton film Rosewood (SK 63031). This original music, featuring vocal performances by best-selling artists Cassandra Wilson and Shirley Caesar, was not used in the film and has never before been available.

These stellar vocalists are joined by some of today's premiere instrumental musicians, including Marcus Roberts on piano, Mark O'Connor on fiddle, Wycliffe Gordon on trombone, Herlin Riley on drums, Wes Anderson on alto sax, and many more. Wynton Marsalis plays trumpet throughout the album.

Reeltime features several original Marsalis Big Band numbers, a duet between Shirley Caesar and Eric Reed on piano, plus some original swing tunes and gospel songs performed by Caesar and Wilson. Highlights include the title track "Rosewood", where Marsalis and Cassandra Wilson team up with six premiere jazz musicians for a stunning, soulful performance that captures all the determination and drama of this tragic American true story.

The only jazz artist ever to win a Pulitzer Prize for music, Wynton Marsalis' music continues to have an impact far beyond the core jazz and classical audiences. With "Swinging into the 21st", this master musician has created yet another milestone in an already awe-inspiring career. "Swinging into the 21st" is the most comperehensive series of jazz and classical albums to be released by any artist within one calendar year. Each of the eight CDs in the series consists solely of original music by Wynton Marsalis, and each is a different musical concept.
