Vivaldi: Late Violin Concertos
For this new recording, Marcon and Carmignola have selected six more concertos for violin and orchestra from the composer's unpublished works. They include the Concerto in B Minor, RV 386; Concerto in D Minor, RV 235; Concerto in F Major, RV 298; Concerto in E-Flat Major, RV 258; Concerto in B Minor, RV 398; and Concerto in E-Flat Major, RV 251.

The technical limitations of the baroque instruments do not hamper Carmignola's ability to play expressively or with a wide coloristic palette. The continuo, led by Marcon at the harpsichord or organ, also offers robust variety in its textures and its improvisations.

Bach: Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord
Bach's first biographer, Johann Nicolaus Forkel, recognized the unusual importance of the Six Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord, BWV 1014-1019 as early as 1802: Six Sonatas for the Clavier with the accompaniment of a violin obbligato. They were composed at Cöthen and may be reckoned among Bach's first masterpieces in this field. They are imitative throughout, and there are also a few canons between the clavier and the violin that are extremely melodic and full of character. The violin part requires a master. Bach knew the possibilities of that instrument and spared it as little as he did the clavier. That the violin and harpsichord parts call for master performers is clear from the present recording, in which Giuliano Carmignola and Andrea Marcon join forces on Baroque instruments to give a spirited reading of the demanding works.
