Banjoist Béla Fleck and Edgar Meyer have been friends and colleagues for more than 20 years, and their new Sony Classical recording Music for Two distills the best live performances from their recent, critically acclaimed duo tour, featuring original pieces and arrangements the two created and developed during the tour. Packaged with a bonus DVD, Music for Two is in stores now.

Music for Two includes 16 new pieces, both original works written in collaboration and new arrangements of pieces by J.S. Bach, which the two wrote and polished during their first joint tour as a duo in 2001. With the release of Music for Two, Fleck and Meyer will hit the road again in May, with concerts throughout the U.S. including key dates in Washington, D.C. (May 20), in New York at Town Hall (May 22) and in San Francisco (May 30).

The bonus DVD, Obstinato: "Making Music for Two," features a 40-minute cinema verité film about the Fleck/Meyer partnership, shot on the road during the first leg of their tour by filmmaker Sascha Paladino, who is Fleck’s brother. Combining live performance and backstage footage with a close-up view of Fleck and Meyer composing together, rehearsing and refining their emerging repertoire, it is a rare and compelling documentary glimpse into a highly creative collaboration as it develops.

Simply Baroque II  Perpetual Motion

Perpetual Motion
A banjo virtuoso who has become a unique creative force in the worlds of bluegrass, jazz, pop and rock, five-time Grammy® Award winner Béla Fleck makes his classical recording debut with Perpetual Motion, his first recording for Sony Classical. In a series of imaginative new arrangements of favorite short works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Paganini, Scarlatti and Tchaikovsky, Fleck is joined by a gallery of guest artists that includes guitarist John Williams, violinist Joshua Bell, percussionist Evelyn Glennie on marimba and bassist Edgar Meyer.

Heartland: An Appalachian Anthology
Sony Classical's Heartland: An Appalachian Anthology is the ultimate new American roots/Bluegrass music album compilation. It features the finest fiddlers and strings imaginable on both the classical and bluegress scenes today: the banjo mastery of Béla Fleck, bluegrass legend Sam Bush, founding member of the New Grass Revival quartet with Béla Fleck, bluegrass mandolinist/guitarist/fiddler Mike Marshall, and Mark O'Connor who built his roots in Texas fiddle music, for which he won national recognition. James Taylor and country star Alison Krauss make a special appearance on the CD along with cello sensation Yo-Yo Ma, violinist Josh Bell, and classical/country bass player Edgar Meyer.

Bach: Unaccompanied Cello Suites

A labor of love for over 30 years, Edgar Meyer offers us his unique interpretation of the Bach Unaccompanied Cello Suites Performed on Double Bass. It is an extraordinary treatment of this landmark classical piece by the world's greatest classical bass virtuoso.

Well known for his performing and composing on the best-selling albums Appalachia Waltz and Appalachian Journey -- both with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Mark O'Connor -- Meyer is the undisputed virtuoso on the double bass, and has made a significant expansion of the bass repertory with this new album.

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the death of Johann Sebastian Bach, Sony Classical is proud to offer this rare recording by Edgar Meyer of the Bach Cello Suites Performed on Double Bass.
