Banjoist Béla Fleck and Edgar Meyer have been friends and colleagues for more than 20 years, and their new Sony Classical recording Music for Two distills the best live performances from their recent, critically acclaimed duo tour, featuring original pieces and arrangements the two created and developed during the tour. Packaged with a bonus DVD, Music for Two is in stores now!
Music for Two includes 16 new pieces, both original works written in collaboration and new arrangements of pieces by J.S. Bach, which the two wrote and polished during their first joint tour as a duo in 2001. With the release of Music for Two, Fleck and Meyer will hit the road again in May, with concerts throughout the U.S. including key dates in Washington, D.C. (May 20), in New York at Town Hall (May 22) and in San Francisco (May 30).
The bonus DVD, Obstinato: "Making Music for Two," features a 40-minute cinema verité film about the Fleck/Meyer partnership, shot on the road during the first leg of their tour by filmmaker Sascha Paladino, who is Fleck’s brother. Combining live performance and backstage footage with a close-up view of Fleck and Meyer composing together, rehearsing and refining their emerging repertoire, it is a rare and compelling documentary glimpse into a highly creative collaboration as it develops.
