    Biography

Steve Epstein's desire to produce classical recordings was realised when, shortly after receiving a B.S. Degree in Music Education from Hofstra University in 1973 - he was offered a job as music editor for the then Columbia Masterworks label, under the helm of Tom Frost and Tom Shepard.

While at Hofstra, Steve held the position of Classical Music Director for their FM radio station, and also served as lab technician for the University's electronic music studio.

Over a period of almost 25 years, Steve, who is currently Senior Executive Producer of Sony Classical, has worked with every major artist and ensemble on the CBS Masterworks and Sony Classical label.

These artists include: Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma, Wynton Marsalis (both classical and jazz), Midori, Lorin Maazel, Claudio Abbado, Itzhak Perlman, Murray Perahia, Emanuel Ax, Placido Domingo, Andre Previn, Bobby McFerrin, the Vienna, Berlin and New York Philharmonic Orchestras, and also the Chicago, Cleveland, London, Conzertgebouw, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Los Angeles Symphony Orchestras.

Sixteen albums produced by Steve have won Grammy Awards. The most recent one (1998) being the Premieres recording (SK 66299) featuring Yo-Yo Ma, David Zinman and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Steve himself has been honored with a total of 21 Grammy nominations and presently has a total of four Grammy Awards, three for Classical Producer of the Year, and one for Best Classical Album.

Other honors, for albums which he has produced, include the Edison and Grande Prix du Disc Awards, as well as four Gold records.
